Our lead this week: Norman Bodek

Norman is known in Lean community as the “Godfather of Lean”. He was instrumental in bringing the works of grandmasters like Ohno and Shingo to the Western World.

A few years back in Japan, I visited Mirai Industries and published a book written by their president Mr. Yamada, titled The Happiest Company to Work For. This company has 100 items, keys, that make them unique. The most powerful is “No Hosenso – “Hōkoku” (報告, to report), “Renraku” (連絡, to inform) and “Sōdan” (相談, to consult). Mr. Yamada tells his employees when you want to do something new, “do not report, do not inform and do not consult.” You are all adults and should make the decisions on your own. “If you make a mistake, learn from it, and don’t repeat it but you will never be punished for making a mistake.” I will give you all 100 items.
